Summer Workshops ~

June 25 - 29, 2012:

Acting Like You Mean It!

Designed for ages 7 – 15, this week long intensive gives each participant a chance to explore and expand on their acting and performance skills. Using a familiar fairy tale story line [to be announced], participants will "devise" an original work for performance.  Intended for students of all skill levels, this workshop will allow the student to:

To explore the playwright’s word and intent.

To explore character development: the four compass points of understanding –

a) what does the playwright say about your character?

b) what does the character say about him/herself?

c) what do the other characters say about your character?

d) what is not said – what can we know from that which is not spoken?

To reach both the experienced and novice actor and create a quality ensemble of performers.

To engage each student’s creative energy and focus it toward a common performance objective.

July 23-27, 2012:

Sing It Out Loud!

Designed for ages 7-15, this one week intensive will focus on the intersection of music and acting. Students will learn two-four show-stopping tunes as well as how to present each of them as a “scene” in performance. The goals of this week are:

To provide an introduction to the form and style of musical theater for young actors, including acting and singing technique and skills, and production values.

To reach both the experienced and novice actor and create a quality ensemble of performers.

To engage each student’s creative energy and focus it toward a common performance objective.
